Sawla Hospital is located in the Gamo-Gofa zone of South Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region (SNNPR) in southern Ethiopia, in a town called Sawla. Sawla town is located approximately 515 km southwest of the capital city Addis Ababa. The town is 260 km west of the Zonal town of Arba Minch.

The Hospital launched its pubic service in May 15 2009. It serves a catchment area with  an estimated population of 800,000.

Due to the low elevation of the land surrounding Sawla and the large areas of standing water where mosquitos can breed, malaria is very common.

The hospital is under equipped in all aspects. For example, the hospital expected to acquire about 300 beds for in patients; however, its actual number of beds is only 50.

The Sawla-Hospital has been governed by a body called ‘Governing Board’ which constitutes about 7 members. The chairperson of the board is the head of the Administration County- called Zone.  The CEO of the Hospital is a professional person recruited by the Hospital management.
